Book Artwork
Ah, book artwork. Every book needs at least some, if only for the covers. But what really makes an illustration?
An illustration is really just any artwork which captures the feel of a passage in the book you're writing. If you're both artistically and authorially talented, then great - you can produce your own book artwork just fine. But what if you aren't? In that case, you have 3 options available. Either your book has no art; you hire an artist; or you learn how to produce art yourself.
Before I started writing I had no artistic talent. Whatsoever. I could barely draw a stickman without messing up. So, when faced with the task of artwork coming about for the novel I co-wrote with Hugh (it was terrible), I decided to take the third option and produce the art myself.
At first it sucked, almost as badly as the book I was basing it on. But, as with writing, anything you do frequently, you get good at. And I slowly but surely improved both standalone artwork, illustrations and graphical stuff (like this website) until the point where I am today. I still have a lot to learn, but I've improved a lot.
My gallery can be found over at deviantART, under the name BeeZeroOne.
